ISO 20121 is a management system standard that has been designed to help all members of the event industry supply chain including organizers, event managers, stand builders, caterers and logistics suppliers to improve the sustainability of their event related activities, products and services. It can be applied to a single event or a venue.
The standard is to provide a framework to help identify the potentially negative social, economic and environmental impacts of events. Organizers can then remove or reduce negative impacts through improved planning and processes. ISO 20121 requires a systematic approach to addressing sustainable development issues in relation to event planning rather than an ad-hoc approach. It facilitates improved sustainability performance.
ISO 20121 also includes practical guidance on communications, operational planning and control, stakeholder identification and engagement, supply chain management and procurement, and issue evaluation.
